Ashish Nehra, Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer who was ruled out of the remainder of the ninth season of the Indian Premier League, will undergo a knee surgery, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement on Tuesday (May 24).
"BCCI medical team confirms that India medium pacer, Ashish Nehra, injured his right knee during the VIVO Indian Premier League 2016. Assessment and investigation by BCCI medical staff revealed Nehra sustained a high-grade tendon injury and was recommended to consult Dr. Andrew Williams, orthopaedic specialist in London. Post consultation, Dr. Williams has advised surgery on his right knee, which will take place shortly," the cricket board said in a media release.
Nehra, for the second time in the season, picked up a hamstring injury when the pacer was helped off the field during Sunrisers' away fixture against Kings XI Punjab, in Mohali on May 15. The senior pacer was subsequently ruled out of the remaining games.
Sunrisers made it to the IPL 2016 playoffs with a third-place finish at the end of the league stage and will take on two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the Eliminator on Wednesday (May 25).
