Timm van der Gugten, four-for set up a comprehensive eight-wicket win for Glamorgan against hosts Surrey in the NatWest T20 Blast at the Kennington Oval on Thursday (May 26).
Electing to bat after winning the toss in their first home game, Surrey openers made a flying start before van der Gugten put the brakes on with the wickets of opener Steven Davies (11) and Kumar Sangakkara (2) in the same over, inside powerplay.
Jason Roy followed suit in the next over, without any addition to Surreys total before Craig Meschede picked up two in quick succession to reduce the hosts to 56 for 5 around the halfway mark. Azhar Mahmood, who injured his calf three balls into his innings, retired hurt to further compound to the home team's woes.
Van der Gugten returned in the 11th over to send wicketkeeper-bat Gary Wilson (5) and James Bruke (0) back in the space of two deliveries. Tom Curran's 19-ball 20 lifted Surrey to a respectable 93.
In reply, captain Jacques Rudolph led the 94-run chase with an unbeaten 34 of 35 deliveries, well aided by his opening partner David Lloyd who contributed 31 off 21 in the 58-run stand.
Bruke ended Colin Ingrams knock at 11 but Aneurin Donald chipped in with 13 in his 19-run stand with the skipper to register a commanding eight-wicket win with more than seven overs to spare.
